Perfion integration for
Microsoft Dynamics 365
Business Central

Integrate Perfion with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
to ensure accurate information across ERP, e-commerce and digital channels.

Connecting product information management with ERP

Optimize core operations

Companies using Business Central rely on it to run critical business operations such as finance, purchasing, inventory and sales. At the same time, many product-driven organizations also need to manage a large amount of product information that goes far beyond traditional ERP item data.

Manage complex product data

Product specifications, marketing descriptions, translations, images, technical documentation and channel-specific product content are often needed across websites, eCommerce platforms, catalogs and marketplaces. Managing all of this information directly inside an ERP system can quickly become complex and difficult to maintain.

Benefits of integrating Perfion with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

By integrating Perfion Product Information Management (PIM) with Business Central, companies introduce a structured way to manage product information while keeping ERP focused on operational processes. Perfion becomes the environment where product data can be structured, enriched and maintained, while Business Central continues to manage transactions, inventory and financial operations.

This integration helps organizations maintain consistent product data across systems, reduce manual work and ensure that product information used by sales, marketing and digital channels remains accurate and up to date.

Two ways to integrate Perfion with Business Central

Organizations manage product information in different ways depending on how their internal processes are structured. Some companies prefer to create items directly in ERP first, while others prefer to develop and enrich product data before introducing it into the ERP system.

The integration between Perfion and Business Central supports both approaches.

Companies can choose to start with ERP as the starting point for product data, or use Perfion as the environment where product information is created and prepared before entering ERP.

ERP-First Approach

Creating product items in Business Central first

For many organizations, product items are initially created in Business Central as part of operational processes. In this scenario, the ERP system remains the starting point for product records, while Perfion provides the environment for enriching and managing additional product information.

The ERP Add-in for Business Central connects the ERP system directly with Perfion and enables product data to be synchronized between the two systems. Item records created in Business Central can automatically appear in Perfion, where teams can expand the product information with specifications, attributes, images, descriptions and other content required by marketing, eCommerce and sales teams.

This approach allows companies to maintain their existing ERP-driven workflows while gaining the advantages of a dedicated PIM system. Product information can be enriched in Perfion without disrupting ERP processes, and both systems remain synchronized so that teams across the organization work with consistent product data.

For organizations where the ERP system is already the central starting point for product items, this integration provides a natural way to extend Business Central with professional product information management capabilities.

PIM-First Approach

Managing product data before it enters ERP

In many organizations, product information exists long before an item is ready to be created in ERP. Product managers, engineers and marketing teams often work with product specifications, variants and content while products are still under development.

In these cases, it can be more efficient to manage product information first in Perfion and only introduce the finalized data into Business Central when it is operationally required.

Release2ERP for Business Central enables this approach by introducing a controlled process for transferring product information from Perfion into the ERP system. Product teams can create and enrich product data in Perfion, define validation rules and ensure that the information is complete before releasing it to Business Central.

Once the required information is ready, the product can be released into the ERP system where the corresponding item record is created or updated automatically. This ensures that Business Central contains only operationally ready product records, while Perfion manages the broader lifecycle of product information.

For companies with complex product portfolios, this approach provides a more structured way to prepare product data while reducing the risk of incomplete or inconsistent information entering ERP processes.

Supporting the Product Value Chain

For organizations using Business Central with growing product portfolios,
Perfion provides a structured way to manage product information while
keeping ERP processes clean, reliable and focused on operational data.

Managing long-tail products and special assortments

The PIM-first approach also supports another scenario that many companies encounter, managing products that are available on sales channels but rarely sold.

Some organizations maintain a long-tail assortment of products that they want to make available through eCommerce platforms or digital catalogs, even though these products are not frequently ordered. In other cases, companies offer highly customized or special-order products that only need to exist in ERP if a customer actually places an order.

With Release2ERP, these products can be fully maintained in Perfion and published to sales channels without being created as ERP items upfront. If and when the product is sold, then it can be created automatically in the ERP, adding product items to the ERP on demand.
This allows companies to keep their ERP system focused on operationally relevant items while still offering a broader product assortment through digital sales channels.

For manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors managing large assortments or special-order products, this approach creates additional flexibility while keeping ERP data clean and manageable.
